Ghetto Shit

I am extremely excited to see that there is a new documentary to be released about N.O Bounce, Bounce music seems to have thrived since Katrina and this movie aims to capture the energy and vibrance of a scene born of tragedy. Peep this youtube and then go to yaheardmefilm.com for more.

In the Court with Marijuana eyes....

So, according to Kid Cudi's blog, neither he nor the Crookers approved the official video that is now doing the rounds all over the flipping internet. Data have picked up the track and (excuse me if I am mad late on this shit, I am too old to keep up with the kids) are putting it out and touting it as the next Prydz-type-anthem. Watching the video it is easy to see why Mr. Cudi is vexed, the video is mad cheesy and quickly releases the artists of whatever artistic integrity they may have had. Homeboy is also pleading with everyone out there to take the video down and not support Data....yeah, good luck with that one. Did Cudi not suspect that something was up in the first place? Did he not think twice as the slapper in the latex bra flashed her money maker in his face (now I come to think of it, no, neither would I) ? Watch out kids, the internet is a big place!

Now watch this gully shit instead and tell me Jim Jones aint all over it...ya smell me!!!

TGV through a straw.....a straw!

Marvy is the only guy I know who drinks TGV. TGV is a Parisian evil that includes TEQUILA, VODKA and GIN....straight...through a straw, now does that sound like the actions of a sane man? Does that even sound like it would be nice? No! But Marvy is no ordinary man, he is a pimp, a player and he is an evil genius. Everytime I see him and the rest of the Booty Call Crew I smile like I have never smiled before. Watching them DJ is like taking a trip through all my favourite Ghetto genres, Juke, Baile, Kuduro and Miami Bass are all taken care of. Support your local PIMP!

Help!

Does anybody know what the name of this track is?

Thanks

L.

Dear Faithful readers I have lost the will to write properly (sprained wrist) (no wanking jokes please) - So any who I'm going to be mega budget and write bullet points for the artist this mix comes from

NAME- Renaissance Man

DO WHAT- Make wonk. A new sort of music that is very big in Finland (that's a lie- they make house really).

WHERE- Finland

WHY- Cos they obviously like living in the dark.

WHAT ELSE? They have a ep out on dubsided any second now which is hot as a very hot potato. They run a label (with some other fellas) called New Judas. And are all around mega nice guys who I wish would move to London so I could poke em with a stick and laugh (that's not true- we would probably just drink coffee).

Renaissance Man - Rene's Party House - February 2009

1.Herbert - Moving Like A Train (Smith & Hack Remix) -K7
2. Sis- Trompetta -CDR
3. Zombie Disco Squad - Esperanto -Sound Pellegrino
4. Radioclit- Secousse (Brodinski Remix) - Mental Groove
5. Obi Blanche - Beetle Fight - CDR

Mastik saved my Soul

Mastiksoul is a don, we all know that by now. He rocked the Beatport charts with his 'Run For Cover' track that included the infamous Daft Punk sample, which, in my opinion was a cheap but also very clever shot that resulted in A LOT of people playing his music. Here he remixes some weirdos from Spain, the man has grooves that wont quit and a bunch of wicked vocals that I would kill for.

Nick & Danny Chatelain - Caliente (Mastiksoul Remix)

Turn It Down

A great article on Resident Advisor appeared recently, dealing with the fine art of Mastering, it centers upon the 'loud = good' debate. A very un-nerdy take on a nerdy subject, something anyone interested in music and music production should take a look at here.

Heres a video on the same subject, Robert Babicz get tech on our rarse.

Motorbass aka Etienne de crecy and Phillip Zdar made fantastic house and deep house tracks through out the nineties. Here´s a favorite of mine a more laidback track of theirs from the legendary Transphunk ep of 93´. Do check out this ep and rest of their stuff. We all know their individual impact on house music but they are just as great together if not even stronger.

Techno Tache

Staying on a 80s/90s tip....Inner City have recently seen a fresh breath of life. That 'house' feeling is seeping its way back into the clubs, Hercules covered a track of theirs and recently Mr. Luciano remixed 'Good Love' to great affect, wah wah guitars, splasy cymbals and sexy moans make this track a lovely one. Now lets all go and grow moustaches and wear tighty white vests aight!

Kevin Saunderson - Good Love ft Inner City (Luciano Remix)

Shannon - Let the music play (Maxi Single!!)

Back in Amschterdamsch! Schuper Cool Yah! This city always makes me happy, lots of big drinks, big smily Dutch loons all over the joint and a general happy-go-lucky attitude to life. Ol'Rizardo made this blog before, heres a remix of his from a while back. The track errs on the edge of big room electro-house (which is definitley a baaaad thing) but he manages to pull it back by dropping into some insane voodoo-zulu-bamboo-banging groove (which is a supremely gooooood thing).

Randy Santino - Phantom Love (Franky Rizardo Mix)

I just made the mistake of watching Justice's 'A Cross the Universe', intrigued by all the 'fake-or-not-fake' talk I decided to download it and see what all the fuss about.

What a total waste of my time! I found the documentary as contrived and as false as the pair's Marshall 'speaker' stack that appears on stage with them. To be honest, I dont give a shit about whether the film's events are true or not, guns do exist in America, as do french dickheads and drunken groupies, that's a given. No matter which way you look at it, Justice et al attempted to make a movie that tried its hardest to cement Gaspard and the other guys status firmly in Rock legend and it failed miserably. I came away with the sour feeling that Justice are simply a bunch of drunk, gross perverts that appear to be both bored of their job and ungrateful of the situations it has got them in, strange then, as you would expect the movie to exactly the opposite.

'Justice-Bashing' is most certainly in vogue right now and I approached the film as openly as I could, wanting to enjoy it for what it was. I urge everyone to do the same and see what their thoughts on the subject are. You can download that shit here. Let us know what you think.....

Wow what a great year. I know it's a little early for a reflective post- but lets face it the run up to NYE will be way to drunken to post good.

I think it's fair to say that everyone who posts on GB has had a good year, for me the highlight of the year has been receiving praise from the dj's and producers who inspired us in the first place. I'm not going to list them (you should be able to guess anyway)- but I am going to say that both of us are very happy with the people we are going to be working with next year and the places our releases are going to be coming out.

I'm working on a best of 2008 but there is so much good stuff to reflect on that it's taking a while- In the mean time Jesse Rose kindly did a 08 best tracks for us:

Jesse Rose (off the top of my head) 2008 chart

Its rare nowadays to be impressed by a new blog. They seem to be a much of a muchness, purveying the same goods, the same remixes, the same collabs. Refreshing then, when something falls out of the sky, lands in your lap and makes your ears perk up. Get The Curse operates out of Paris and takes care of the Deep, Minimal and Techier side of things, they run Podcasts on the reggo and throw decent looking parties. Go check them out.....here.

Worthy's new(ish) label has been putting out a lot of nice stuff recently, the most recent Mad Cap is one you should be looking out for. After a few trials with the name (it went from Katabatic to Anabatic due to someone else with the same name) they seem to have made a nice groove for themselves. Worthy knocked up this promo mix to celebrate!

THINGS I LEARNT IN YANKEE.

1. The US airport guys like searching me even more that their European counterparts- then even have a special machine they made me stand in several times...

2. Eating lots of hamburgers, pancakes and other various fatty foods makes the brain sluggish and you start to think- hmm maybe that George bush ain't such a bad guy.

3. Thanksgiving is really really stupid- If I was Native American I'd be mega pissed that the entire country celebrates the fact that the Native Americans helped out the Pilgrims and the Pilgrims helped out the Native Americans by killing and raping them all.

4. No man needs to buy more than 3 pairs of sneakers in one trip regardless of how cheap they are - because he has to carry the fuckers home.

5. Being in a car with a drunk driver is fucking scary.

6. Penn station has a quality of homeless dudes that kings cross only dreams about having.

7. There are rats every where in NYC - some even ware suits.

8. The drugs are much better here.

9. People are actually very polite in New York- that myth that everyone is crazy rude is a lie.

10. I need to stop putting on a weird half American accent (I can't help it) it sounds really stupid.

I'm off to see Mr. Ricardo Villalobos tonight play alongside Jesse Rose and others at the fantastic Watergate club tonight. I have never seen the man play before and am intrigued to see what all the fuss is about...This track sees him get his moody on with Jay Haze, big trumpets and steady beats.

Blamma Blamma! Second mix of the day, this one was made especially for GutterBroadcast. Daniel Steinberg is a champ, we are big fans of his twisted music, from the cut-up madness of Cobra Limbos to the chunky fidget like-beats of Viwa La Fiwa. Berlin resident Mr. Steinberg can be found selling his wares on Frontroom as well the Style Rockets label, and also puts out more Tech stylings under his Harry Axt moniker. Now go and say a big thankyou to Daniel over the internet whilst listening to this superb mix, whooooop!

Yo things to do right this second.

1. Tell any Americans you meet that Thanksgiving is the most stupid holiday ever and it has really pissed me off because every thing is closed in NYC and I had to eat at a diner that has made me feel really sick

2. Hold your breath until we announce some really exciting ZDS news that has been making us cry tears of joy the last couple of weeks

3. Go buy my remix of Mowgli on Beatport ( Nat Self )

Imagine, a dusty salon. The door flys open and in the glare from behind the opened door, a silhouetted man steps in. your eyes adapt and standing there is a very young dutch whippersnapper.

I feel sick, Franky Rizardo is 19, he comes from dutch land. And quite frankly is fucking amazing. He has a maturity to his sound that is normally found to a grizzled old producer. At a aged mid 20's i look with jealousy and admiration at this fella.

Any who,

Cormac (he's the 'normal' looking one up there) has featured on here before and he has popped up again with this new promotional mix. I pay dues to Cormac mainly because: A. His voice is like Irish honey and B. He is behind Wet Yourself, a night that is responsible for some of the nicest line-ups in recent London clubland history. While it seems everyone is abandoning ship and shutting up shop, WYS goes from strength to strength, feet firmly rooted in badarse Techno.

Some obsure, wierdly mainstream Latin House here, I like the beats and the name 'Tito Puente Jr' (that's old senior up there) is better than any other name in the world. Ever. Check the crazy bastard out here. This stuff is kinda cheesy but I reckon after a few Tequilas I could be tempted onto the podium.......whhooopah!

Tito Puente Jr ft India - Oye Como Va (Filip Le Frick Remix)

Daniel Castillo ft Samantha - Calibe (DJ Alexis Freites Remix)

You must have heard the name by now, Hookerz and Blow have been everywhere with their 'Whistler' mash-up, even Mr. Stroke is an ardent fan. They just passed us their remix of The Martin Brothers for blogging rights and its pretty good, even though I am not usually a fan of that wiggly acid noise, this one does it for me.
