Wow what a great year. I know it's a little early for a reflective post- but lets face it the run up to NYE will be way to drunken to post good.

I think it's fair to say that everyone who posts on GB has had a good year, for me the highlight of the year has been receiving praise from the dj's and producers who inspired us in the first place. I'm not going to list them (you should be able to guess anyway)- but I am going to say that both of us are very happy with the people we are going to be working with next year and the places our releases are going to be coming out.

I'm working on a best of 2008 but there is so much good stuff to reflect on that it's taking a while- In the mean time Jesse Rose kindly did a 08 best tracks for us:

Jesse Rose (off the top of my head) 2008 chart

1. Sis - Nesrib - ceccile
2. LOTP - Bathroom Gurgle (Duke Dumont Remix) - Parlophone
3. Jesse Rose - Touch My Horn - Dubsided
4. Consistent - Midnight Blend (Oliver $ Remix) - Front Room

7. Riva Starr - Maria - Kindish
8. Jan Driver - Rat Alert - Made to Play
9. Jesse Rose - Forget My Name - Dubsided
10. Robert Deitz - Sunshower - Ceccile

Have a happy Christmas - unless your American then 'Have a happy Holidays' :)

An interesting article on the 'death' of Minimal Techno can be found here. Apart from it being maybe a little late and a little severe at the same time, it raises some interesting points that we have all been noticing lately, the Guardian gets in on the action........

Its rare nowadays to be impressed by a new blog. They seem to be a much of a muchness, purveying the same goods, the same remixes, the same collabs. Refreshing then, when something falls out of the sky, lands in your lap and makes your ears perk up. Get The Curse operates out of Paris and takes care of the Deep, Minimal and Techier side of things, they run Podcasts on the reggo and throw decent looking parties. Go check them

Worthy's new(ish) label has been putting out a lot of nice stuff recently, the most recent Mad Cap is one you should be looking out for. After a few trials with the name (it went from Katabatic to Anabatic due to someone else with the same name) they seem to have made a nice groove for themselves. Worthy knocked up this promo mix to celebrate!

Worthy - Station Grape

1. Toni Moreno - Piano Bar - Khazuma Recordings
2. Dub Taylor - The Max - Opossum Recordings
3. Ronald Christoph - Underground limbo
4. Worthy - Madcap - Anabatic Records

1. The US airport guys like searching me even more that their European counterparts- then even have a special machine they made me stand in several times...

2. Eating lots of hamburgers, pancakes and other various fatty foods makes the brain sluggish and you start to think- hmm maybe that George bush ain't such a bad guy.

3. Thanksgiving is really really stupid- If I was Native American I'd be mega pissed that the entire country celebrates the fact that the Native Americans helped out the Pilgrims and the Pilgrims helped out the Native Americans by killing and raping them all.

4. No man needs to buy more than 3 pairs of sneakers in one trip regardless of how cheap they are - because he has to carry the fuckers home.

5. Being in a car with a drunk driver is fucking scary.

6. Penn station has a quality of homeless dudes that kings cross only dreams about having.

7. There are rats every where in NYC - some even ware suits.

8. The drugs are much better here.

9. People are actually very polite in New York- that myth that everyone is crazy rude is a lie.

10. I need to stop putting on a weird half American accent (I can't help it) it sounds really stupid.

Yo Yo,

What do you do when you make a massive electro house hit that everyone plays? Answer- obviously remake it so it's even better and get a amazing remix as the B

Deadmau5 might be a bit big room but none the less The reward is more cheese is real good. Here is a remix of one of his other tracks that is the B, it's hot....

deadmau5- desynchronised(john made remix)

I'm off to see Mr. Ricardo Villalobos tonight play alongside Jesse Rose and others at the fantastic Watergate club tonight. I have never seen the man play before and am intrigued to see what all the fuss is about...This track sees him get his moody on with Jay Haze, big trumpets and steady beats.

Blamma Blamma! Second mix of the day, this one was made especially for GutterBroadcast. Daniel Steinberg is a champ, we are big fans of his twisted music, from the cut-up madness of Cobra Limbos to the chunky fidget like-beats of Viwa La Fiwa. Berlin resident Mr. Steinberg can be found selling his wares on Frontroom as well the Style Rockets label, and also puts out more Tech stylings under his Harry Axt moniker. Now go and say a big thankyou to Daniel over the internet whilst listening to this superb mix, whooooop!

Daniel Steinberg - Treptower Nachte

1. Late Of The Pier Bathroom – Gurgle (Duke Dumont remix)
2. Julian Chaptal - balkafono
3. Boris Werner - sambosa
4. Paul Rich – crazy madness (Lucca Bacchetti remix)
5. Daniel Steinberg - pay for me (Lauhaus remix)
6. Robert Dietz – shunsower
7. Daniel Steinberg – dont you know?

16. Kaiserdisco - traction
17. Pierce Jerl – blanc de blancs
18. Marco Carola – dancing days
19. SiS – nesrip
20. Marmion - schöneberg

Another mix here for those quiet days on the road. We're Not Cool popped up a while back in the London scene and has been holding it down at Ministry and Trailer Trash, this track sees him serve up some 'warm techno' on these cold days. Enjoy!

Yo things to do right this second.

1. Tell any Americans you meet that Thanksgiving is the most stupid holiday ever and it has really pissed me off because every thing is closed in NYC and I had to eat at a diner that has made me feel really sick

2. Hold your breath until we announce some really exciting ZDS news that has been making us cry tears of joy the last couple of weeks

3. Go buy my remix of Mowgli on Beatport ( Nat Self )

Imagine, a dusty salon. The door flys open and in the glare from behind the opened door, a silhouetted man steps in. your eyes adapt and standing there is a very young dutch whippersnapper.

I feel sick, Franky Rizardo is 19, he comes from dutch land. And quite frankly is fucking amazing. He has a maturity to his sound that is normally found to a grizzled old producer. At a aged mid 20's i look with jealousy and admiration at this fella.

Any who,

Oliver Twizt-Houston We Have A Problem (Franky Rizardo Remix)

Cormac (he's the 'normal' looking one up there) has featured on here before and he has popped up again with this new promotional mix. I pay dues to Cormac mainly because: A. His voice is like Irish honey and B. He is behind Wet Yourself, a night that is responsible for some of the nicest line-ups in recent London clubland history. While it seems everyone is abandoning ship and shutting up shop, WYS goes from strength to strength, feet firmly rooted in badarse Techno.

Cormac - Invisible London Mix

Bathroom Gurgle -Late Of The Pier- (Duke Dumont Mix)- Zarcop
Township Funk - DJ Mujava (RadioClit Mix) This Is Music Ltd.
World Of Deep- Kevin Saunderson- Jesse Rose Mix- KMS Recs.

When i was going through my i-tunes playlists last week, i came across this Matthew Dear track that we used to play a lot when it came out. Still amazing!

Some obsure, wierdly mainstream Latin House here, I like the beats and the name 'Tito Puente Jr' (that's old senior up there) is better than any other name in the world. Ever. Check the crazy bastard out here. This stuff is kinda cheesy but I reckon after a few Tequilas I could be tempted onto the podium.......whhooopah!

Tito Puente Jr ft India - Oye Como Va (Filip Le Frick Remix)

Daniel Castillo ft Samantha - Calibe (DJ Alexis Freites Remix)

Friday, November 07, 2008

You must have heard the name by now, Hookerz and Blow have been everywhere with their 'Whistler' mash-up, even Mr. Stroke is an ardent fan. They just passed us their remix of The Martin Brothers for blogging rights and its pretty good, even though I am not usually a fan of that wiggly acid noise, this one does it for me.

Some brand new, raw Carioca for you today. Some examples of some of the more simple, less cut up stuff coming out these days. You all must know of DJ Edgar from his amazing work with Man Recs, this track sees him teaming up with Bombom (?) for a stripped-down-simple-sweat-it-out-banger.

DJ Edgar ft Bombom - Pururuca

Next is an amazing song by Phabyo and MC Andrell, the trumpets and bongo breakdown do it for me...a lot.

New things....

Gutterbroadcast is always on the new things, we spoke about the Crookers before most, they since went stellar. Crystal Fighters were our darlings and now they are Rob Da Bank's....we even harped on about Mujava before his imminent Warp signing and consequent 'stardom', we're starting to get a big head.

But today I'm kind of tired of new things, there seems to be too many of them fighting for my attention, so heres something old, something tried and tested.

Grace Jones - Pull Up To My Bumper (Larry Levan Remix)

PS: Go and buy the new Catz & Dogz album, out soon on Mothership....its amazing.

Some African You Tubes right here....

First of all, its quite hard to imagine what could make this video better or even freakier.

Up until the wierd change, this beat is CRAZY!, Im so gutted its distorted. I will give a prize to anyone that can find this on highquality mp3....dope.

DJ Mbuso is on some wierd shit....nice beat though.

Today is national Trumpet Day, a celebration of all things horny. Heres one of my favourite songs ever....

Two Funk heavyweights for you all this morning, proving you cannot get too much of a good thing, Gaiola Das Popozudas return with this heavily cut up track. The banshees of Baile rap their hearts out over a familiar sample.

Gaiola das Popozudas - Hoje eu vou Beber a Noite Toda

The next track features two MCs I have not heard of before teaming up with a backing from Dennis DJ, this track is as steady as a train and just knocked me sideways. Everybody seems to be on this horn sample at the moment.....heavy productions!!

Torrada e Lanna - Gostosinho (Dennis DJ)

We recently got invited by the ever busy Shir Khan to do his radio show, amongst talking about ourselves and playing only our tracks, we also subjected over 40,000 listeners to this lovely little mix. Enjoy!

Today is Suicide Tuesday- what the hell is that I hear you ask- well if you are pure of heart and mind but sometimes enjoy the weekend a little bit too much (I was in Amsterdam need I say more) the first few days of the week can be a little raw- and generally in my experience Tuesday is the worst- hence Suicide Tuesday.

An Old wise man called Jack once told me that songs can last for more that 6 months- initially I mocked him saying that some things should defiantly last for less (we are your friends- amazing- then good- then ok- then pub- then suicide Tuesday). He how ever looked into the middle distance a slow smile forming on his lips and said two words- Blue Monday - I bowed down before him and said oh jack this is why your groove became the groove of all grooves-

Phonique -The Red Dress (Tiefschwarz Remix)
