Our favourite Frenchies Noze are back with a new album (Songs on the Rocks, out on Get Physical in April), and despite getting a bit more orchestral and lovey-dovey than the last one....it is still SO on point. Noze somehow manage to cross the boundaries of jazz, techno, big band and smooth ass pop music in a very stylish and flagrant fashion. I am yet to witness the guys live, but can imagine the live show being a hit, something like Gonzales used to be. Hopefully the label is on top of the people doing remix duties for this album, I wait with batied breath to hear what comes out.....here in 320 glory is the first track off of the album.

Okay, so you fools probably didnt believe us when we proposed a 'Ghetto House Top Ten' did you? DID YOU? (To be honest, I didnt believe myself). Ghetto House is a name that has been passed around a lot recently, hopefully the people using it know what it means and we can avoid what has happened to Fidget House happening to Ghetto House. I doubt it ever will, seeing as ghetto shit is exactly that, as it usually involves a big black american dude, a couple of busted drum machines and a little pent up frustrated energy, I cant see Craig from Durham churning out the next 'House-O-Matic'...can you?

To be honest, a top ten of this kind of music is a daft idea, there are far too many good tracks that could be included in this list. So here is a pick of the crop, as opposed to a definitive 'best of'......

I never really looked into Crystal Castles, they were always simply purveyors of really nice tshirts and maybe a little too 'hype' for me to ever get that excited about. A nice surprise was to be had then, when listening to the album for the first time, I discovered quite a lot of substance behind the style. It seems (alongside nice melodic electronica) 'electroclash' is really not dead at all....

Disco, Disco, Disco....all I hear is Disco. Funny how it all comes around again, all I hear is bandwagon-jumpers now proclaiming that they have always been into disco, how its the only 'real' music and that it never died, only went underground. Yeah, whatever....round here the only word that gets repeated is 'HOUSE'. House music is coming back bitches, whether its new or old....we are bringing it back. No longer a dirty word....end of story.

First up, a track from a group that are heralded as being the forefront runners in the disco revolution....I chose this track because it sounds well like old 90's House.

Ok so we might be a bit late with this, what with it being February and all, but none the less here are some hot tips for people who we reckon are going to blow up this year.


Game Boy Game Girl- A group from sunny Melbourne, Australia. They blend amazing pop melody's with disco and glitchy house to make the best dance floor music since daft met punk. They have their Golden Ghetto Sex ep coming out soon on Sweat It Out Records(with our remix which can be heard on our myspace). The promotional video for the ep is in a post below.

Sweat X- Ok so we have been banging on about these guys for ages, but they are really quite good. if you haven't listened to them yet- Imaging Africa Bambaataa stuck in a lift with Public Enemy and Prince. Their coming to Europe on tour very soon- check their myspaz for dates.


Mowgli and Riva Starr- What the fuck is going on in Italy, is there something in the water or what? Along with Crookers, Clark Able (another one to watch), Nic Sarno and Congo Rock these two YouPorn stallions have been leading the way in a new sound of House music. Riva Starr has an ep about to drop on Skint and Mowgli has a whole bunch of stuff about to come out (check his myspaz). We're glad these two moved over to London!!

Fagget Fairys- Ok- just to get this straight, this isn't (just) a promotion of our remixes! Yes yes we have remixed them, and yes yes we are very happy with the end result and yes yes it did make our heads grow massively when it ripped the dance floor apart......Um any ways.....This pair of sexy Danes are amazing, like Eastern European Baile funk with Garage sensibilities - They have an ep out now on Art Rockers/Palms out which is amazing and buy an Art Rockers T-shirt (and please get us one while you at it.)



Phew, ok, well that's a start. I'm sure there are people that haven't been mentioned, but that's all we can think of for the moment, there may be a part two with em, watch this space.

The extremely young ADHDJS pointed us in the direction of this heaviness. Being slightly dissapointed with the anti-climax that was Kwaito, I was very surprised to hear this booming out my speakers. South Africa stand up!!

I'm fucking fed up with BIG music. BIG music can take a back seat for a while over here. Fidget has become the new 'blog-house' while 'Blog House' has simply fallen off and become a joke. Most modern dance music nowadays feels like cheap, instantly gratifying sludge that was made in around three hours. I am tired of hearing the same 'waarrrp warp wobble wobble' bassline with the same cut-up ragga vocals over and over again. At the same time, and on a more positive note, I can feel a change happening, especially in London. One that involves a return to 'dance' music, whether it is informed by Minimal, House or Techno or whatever. A welcome return to music that was originally made to make your feet move, as opposed to make your jaw drop and one where music is a little more subtle and allowing than before. All this is a little strange when considering that London is the birthplace of 'boy music fidget' and a place where (in some 'tastemaking' circles anyway) that 'Minimal' and 'House' never quite took off.

I also hesitated when uploading this track, for various reasons (one being that I had found this track a while back and wanted to hold onto it for myself), but at the same time I figure it is important this shit reaches as many people as possible and shows them that music can be amazing without being extreme. As usual, play loud (on good speakers) and make sure you BUY the whole EP over there on Beatport.

Okay, still reeling from our Dutch excursion (I'm sorry to harp on about it)...

You know who much us Zombies love new dances, new dance songs, ghetto kids getting loose etc, well we found a new one. Its called 'Jumpstyle' and seems to be most popular in Holland and the Dutch speaking parts of Belgium, the music that accompanies this wierd, choreographed dance is like a slowed down version of Gabba. It is huge in Holland, with ringtones and mobile videos and all of that. Unlike the Wu Tang Slide, which is COOL and WICKED, Jumpstyle is STUPID and very, very WHITE...please view the video, have a little giggle at the idiots and then FORGET it all happened.

Okay Okay, it was too damn nice to keep to myself. Here is the Ron Carroll track we mentioned below, if you like it, go cop the EP from Beatport or something. Every now and then a producer pops up and makes musical gold consistently until they get rich and fall off BIG TIME, Mr. B More has been doing it for a while and shows no sign of stopping (or getting too big for his boots). For the first time this year I got up before 12, and flicked on the telly to find my good old friends the chuckle brothers on, rather than being the nostalgic experience I was hoping for it turned into a horrible parade of two old men who really should be doing something else now. Doing slap stick with liver spots is not a good look.
