CAMEL - ELECTRIC COOKIN' VOL.1 (summer 2010) by Camel_

We finally made a track with Spoek....

It was only right, after being in the same circles as one Mr. Mathambo/Mokgata....we finally hooked it up and made this Chicago-esq track. Remixes come from Solo and Mowgli, both adding a more tech, ratatatat sound to the original. Hope you like!

Fex Fellini and other stuff from sound cloud

Sound cloud is one of those things I check about one every 6th months - and genrally it's full of daft punk bootlegs that have been sent to us (sorry guys - keep going you'll get there) how ever I came across this mix and ep preview in our drop box - I'm quite fond of it - I have only heard it on my laptop speakers so have no idea how it will sound in the club (don't blame me if it sounds whack - sorry fex :)

Last night we played to around 1000 Hispanic 16 year olds....all doing this dance. The LA shuffle seems to be the new dance craze going on and it was incredible to see so many people getting down like this.....plus they all were mad for dutch house which added to the surreal nature of the night! M.A.D.

Tonight we have the pleasure and the blessing to play Piknik Elektronik for the second time round, last year was insane....easily one of the best gigs in recent times. Im thinking this year will be up there too, if only for the fact that we play after Noze. We met the dudes up in Tofino last week and Im really looking forward to finally seeing them play live....CANADA STAND UP!

Bop Tik Bop Tik Bop Tik Bop Tik

I have to fess up......I have always had more of an affinity with Techno than House, something about the cold, mechanic and slightly humanistic emotion of bleeps and clicks resonates with something in me...I cant quite explain it.I still get those wierd-hair-standing-on-end experiences with Techno music (and when I'm talking Techno I mean minimal, modern or original stuff...not 145bpm crusty Techno, I feel dirty just listening to that stuff).

I got a few of those 'special' moments when watching this documentary, you can say what you like about Mr. Hawtin (he has many haters) but what he has done with his career and what he does with expanding on the clubbing experience shown in this video is pretty astonishing. This is a dance music documentary worth keeping and watching again, inspiring stuff!! (unlike the Luciano documentary, I had to turn that one off 20 minutes in, his ego was too big for my computer)

Hip Hop and you DO stop.

Hip Hop documentaries serve a certain purpose for me, the last few I watched have opened my eyes to the different qualities that each rapper has or is. The Weezy doc made me realise how lonely Wayne is (dont worry Moola, I'm here for you), the Big Pun doc made me realise how goddamn 'BIG' Punisher actually was towards the end of his days and the Biggie doc made me realise how wonky homeboys eye actually was....like crazy 45 degrees wonky, I cant believe I never noticed it.

This documentary makes me see how goddamn-completely-insanely-around-the-world-loop-the-loop-crazy ODB was. There are far too many gems in this one, so if like me you are starting your day with a distinct lack of direction and maybe an uncertainty to what you might create during the day, watch this and be happy in the knowledge that you are not quite as fucked as ODB was (R.I.P).

A Riot going on....

When we go to Paris (which we do, a lot) we usually bump into the same animals. Marvy, Tarko, Kesmo, Ro and all the others prop up the DJ booth and get insanely drunk with us everytime we hit the Social Club....recently there has been a new face added to the crowd, Marvys little brother, Riotkid. Riotkid is the kinda dude that makes me want to up my game for fear of letting the new wave take over. Mercury Chicago's finest re-edited

An old wisdom says: "Knowledge is the foundation of all things. Wisdom is the manifestation of knowledge." In this spirit we studied the history of House music and, as an exercise and manifestation of what we have learned, re-edited House tracks by Steve "Silk" Hurley (Voices of Life), Cajmere and Ralphi Rosario with the objective of making them sound classic and fresh at the same time. As we feel enthusiastic about the result of our exercise and love the idea of a Chicago House renaissance on contemporary dancefloors we want to share what we call "Chicago's Finest Re-Edited".

I watched this movie the other day, Steal This Film is based on and around The Pirate Bay, arguably the nets biggest Torrent site. Part one largely deals with The Pirate Bay itself and is maybe a little naive and biased in its approach, bt part Two, however is really worth watching....anyone who is involved in downloading free shit from the web should take the time out to watch it. Aside from drawing interesting comparisons between web-sharing culture and the invention of the printing press it also concerns itself with the future of music as an entity and how the 'hyper-information' age will inevitably affect culture and humanity as a whole! Whoooooaaaa! Totally trippy dude!

But seriously, its really good...watch it
