Hip Hop and you DO stop.

Hip Hop documentaries serve a certain purpose for me, the last few I watched have opened my eyes to the different qualities that each rapper has or is. The Weezy doc made me realise how lonely Wayne is (dont worry Moola, I'm here for you), the Big Pun doc made me realise how goddamn 'BIG' Punisher actually was towards the end of his days and the Biggie doc made me realise how wonky homeboys eye actually was....like crazy 45 degrees wonky, I cant believe I never noticed it.

This documentary makes me see how goddamn-completely-insanely-around-the-world-loop-the-loop-crazy ODB was. There are far too many gems in this one, so if like me you are starting your day with a distinct lack of direction and maybe an uncertainty to what you might create during the day, watch this and be happy in the knowledge that you are not quite as fucked as ODB was (R.I.P).

A Riot going on....

When we go to Paris (which we do, a lot) we usually bump into the same animals. Marvy, Tarko, Kesmo, Ro and all the others prop up the DJ booth and get insanely drunk with us everytime we hit the Social Club....recently there has been a new face added to the crowd, Marvys little brother, Riotkid. Riotkid is the kinda dude that makes me want to up my game for fear of letting the new wave take over. I watched this movie the other day, Steal This Film is based on and around The Pirate Bay, arguably the nets biggest Torrent site. Part one largely deals with The Pirate Bay itself and is maybe a little naive and biased in its approach, bt part Two, however is really worth watching....anyone who is involved in downloading free shit from the web should take the time out to watch it. Aside from drawing interesting comparisons between web-sharing culture and the invention of the printing press it also concerns itself with the future of music as an entity and how the 'hyper-information' age will inevitably affect culture and humanity as a whole! Whoooooaaaa! Totally trippy dude!

Poutine is a traditional dish from Canada, it comprises of thick cut chips that are drenched in gravy, which are then lavishly adorned with some 'cheese curds'. The stuff I had was served in a takeaway box...it was fookin delicious and I would quite happily eat another box right now. Poutine is my new favourite.

So, Canada is pretty good so far and we are only one date in! Canadians are all super nice and friendly, I saw a Groundhog eating something by the roadside on the way in but am still searchin out a Moose or two....We head over to Toronto tonight, to meet and party with Brandon of the Curb Crawlers blog. We heard a lot about the party and I am looking forward to checking it out!

Uh oh, so it seems the new young House-wave hasn't exactly learnt from it's fathers mistakes, a quick search on Beatport leads you to a string of played out 'my House, your House, jack the House, House is within you' carbon copy cutout hits, complete with big piano breaks and diva vocals.....however, not everything is all doom and gloom, theres seems to be some great, tribalistic, underground perc workouts like this one surfacing here and there. Affkt and Danny Fiddo take the sublime vocal sample from Radio Slave's recent 'Koma Koma' and work it into a much more playable groover....this would slay at Panorama Bar!
