Okay, I'm going to be the first one here to say this...Is it just me or is Tribal House making a come back (or at least 'elements' of Tribal House, not the whole kit and kaboodle thank god)? Bongos, Congas and African Chants etc etc all seem to be featuring much more frequently in House and Techno than ever before...anyone care to agree/disagree?

And Damn, am I in a Bongo mood today! Something about the sun being out just releases my inner 'Arrested-Development' side! After posting these I'm off to Brixton Village to buy some incense and maybe some 'skins'....

First up is old boy DJ Gregory with a nice slow builder, the track features car horns and strings that sound like they were lifted from 'A Clockwork Orange'. I could imagine this working well as a set opener or even a backing for some kind of blend.

Lastly is a track I am really liking, Abonne takes a wicked vocal loop and sticks in on top of a nice bassy, percussive groove. I really like the huge Style of Eye-ish trumpet blasts and I hope to hear this one super loud at around 6am in the morning.

Most recently I had it when listening to this KuBo mixtape, his style is a perfect balance between Dark Techno, Kudoro-ish Beats, Dubbed out echos and the kind of subtlety that would keep me dancing all night long. So picture the (incredibly surreal) scene...

We just landed in Ibiza after a straight-through-no-sleep flight from Stanstead, left our bags at Scarface's Villa and found ourselves at dinner with Judge Jules, Krafty Kuts, Eddie Halliwell and some Dutch Trance producer called Bart. The warm-up DJ at the restuarant is playing some nice Tech-House with definite zulu leanings, both of us bouncing around in our chairs whilst the Hard House mafia sign autographs for excited Scottish teenagers. One track in particular makes me approach the booth and ask for the author of said banger-langer, and it turns out I have been sleeping heavily on Mr. Franky Rizardo (who appears to be of the same ilk as Sidney Sampson et al). It also turns out that this track would go on to be the best song I heard the entire night, now go and buy his Voodoo and Flutetest tracks from Beatport like I just did.

1. Maaaaassssive thanks go out to This Is Music Ltd for seeing the possiblities in Mujava's 'Township Funk' track. We featured the dude on here ages ago and it seems like he is getting an official release complete with a Beedle re-edit and everything. I hope we finally hear more of this guy and he gets his act together and gets a myspace up and running.

2. Put this in your diary, Barclay and the gang are headed for London next weekend (25th). Unit 7 in Limehouse plays home to the first ever 'Official' Dirtybird party. Justin Martin and Tim Green will be in tow for what you know will probably be one of the parties of the year...just so you know.

3. Nutcases...I tell you. My search for more Pretoria House somehow lead me to this. The art of 'Gusheshe' (BMW) spinning seems to be quite popular judging by all the You Tube posts, one video attributed the event to the dying of a local Tsotsi (thief/gangster). Insane.

Mastiksoul is a big deal.....like, a REALLY big deal. His label Kitsam is one of our favourites at the moment, you should go check it if you havent heard of it before. Back from a long week in the Valencian sun, tanned and slightly starved of music. Most of the beats I did hear were supplied by the Spanish teenagers on the Metro, it was refreshing to hear that the kids prefer to listen to original traditional Spanish music as opposed to the diluted R&B that London yoofs like so much.

A lesson in Bass today, the music that told you whether your car speaker system was up to scratch....

One album that is on heavy rotation at my home these days is El Guincho's "Alegranza". I think its out for a while now, but its still growing on me and i cant get enough of it. If you like the song you hear, then go and buy the whole album. Its definitely worth it. And if you have the chance to see him live, don't hesitate. I saw him in barcelona at this years primavera festival and it was one of the best shows so far in 2008!

Just back from Norway, Bergen to be precise...thats Mickal from Telle Records up there, he is a strong contender for best host ever. He took us to see this church that got burnt down by some mental black metal guy, it seems the scene is pretty fucking serious - we heard stories that involved record label managers and sacrificed sheep, which I found really intriguing seeing as everything in Norway seems to be pretty much perfect. Whilst Mickal warmed up in the club the night before he played this bomb, somehow it managed to sneak past the Zombie radar when it was released late last year. Green Velvet gets all sexy with Russoul on the track, minimal blips and soulful vocals make for a really nice bouncy track that makes me want to 'get my groove on' or something equally as revolting. Lutzenkirchen featured here on this blog a while back, he has come to the forefront of my attention with his new album - Pandora Electronica (out on Great Stuff Records). This is my pick of the bunch, a track I have heard on a few mixtapes already. Paperboy couples crunchy as hell kickdrums with a nice blissed out jazz sample, it could be Sade or something....I'm really looking forward to hearing this on a big system.
